Sneak Peek

Hey stampers!  As you can tell by your calendar, it is almost time for a new Stampin' UP! catalog.  So I have I have a little sneak peek.  Tonight's project uses the Awash with Flowers (which will be available tomorrow), a level 3 Hostess set from the new catalog called Occasional Quotes.  I did a technique called "emerging color".  This is the first time I have attempted this and for my first time I think it turned out pretty good.  I used Certainly Celery card stock measuring 5x5, a 1x5 strip of Melon Mambo, and white card stock.  For ink I used Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, and Soft Suede.  For this technique, you take a piece of white card stock and stamp your images in a darker color. ( I used Rich Razzleberry.) Randomly stamp your images all of the piece of card stock including stamp off the side a little bit.  Once you have that how you want, you will need to create a "mask"  I used a piece of scrap paper and cut out about a 4" circle.  I laid my mask over my stamped images, while holding the mask down, I covered the image that was still showing with Versa Mark ink.  Once I had good coverage, I took away the mask and added clear embossing powder to the versa mark.  I used my heat tool to set the powder.  Then I took my Speedball brayer and applied a layer of Melon Mambo ink.  Once I had the color saturation I wanted, I took a paper towel and wiped the color off of my embossed image.  This creates the "emerging" color.  Once this piece is done, I folded my Certainly Celery card stock and then added the strip of Melon Mambo.  I added my main image and then made my little flag that says "Birthday Wishes".  I rounded the bottom corners of the card base.  On the inside, I stamped "one day isn't enough to celebrate someone as WONDERFUL as you...let's party all week!".  This technique takes a few extra minutes but it is worth it.  Let me know what you think and I would love to see samples of your own work.  Thanks for stopping by tonight.

Breakin' the Rules

Hey Stampers!  I say I am breakin' the rules but I am tempering that with sharing something I love which is making cards.  The card stock is Old Olive from Stampin' UP!  The sentiment is from the Stampin' UP! set called On Your Birthday.  The ribbon and the Calla Lily image are not.  I used my Prisma Color markers for the coloring and my colorless blender for those and I absolutely LOVE how it turned out.  So I had to share.  I stamped the image with Timber Brown Staz onto water color paper.  Once I colored my image and felt it was dry, I cut out around the flowers and stems.  Then I used dimensionals to pop the image up on white card stock.  I used a card that I cut an oval opening and had not used.  So I attached the white card stock on the back of the Old Olive and then attached my flowers.  The ribbon was from something I already had on hand.  The brads are a white/vanilla color and I honestly have no idea where they came from.  So I hope you like it and thanks for stopping by.

Father's Day Card

Hey stampers!  Here is one of the father's day cards I have made.  I used the dad from Eight Great Greetings which is retiring at the end of the month.  I stamped the image on a piece of glossy card stock using Timber Brown Staz On.  I set it aside and let it dry for a few minutes, which is something you should do with anything you stamp on the glossy card stock.  Once it was dry, I did kind of a "outside beachy" thing.  I started with a dark blue and sponged it on the bottom, then went gradually lighter and then switched to different greens.  Then I took a sponge and wiped the ink off the inside of the "d".  I let that dry and then frame it with Night of Navy card stock.  Then I took a piece of Bordering  Blue and folded it to a card size of  4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  I put in the circles embossing folder and sent it through the Bigh Shot.  I took a piece of Basic Grey card stock and put that across the middle of the card.  I attached my image in the center and then added 3 nail head stickers on either side of the image.  It is a pretty simple layout and design but I like the look of it.  I still have one more Father's Day card to make so you will see that later this week.  Thanks for stopping by.

Wedding Cake creation

Hey Stampers!  Couple of new things for you today.  A new card with an end product that I love and a new background on the blog.  I like this new layout alot so I hope you do too.  Now onto the card.  This card is for a friend of mine that is getting married next Saturday and I am not worried she will see it because she is way too busy doing last minute wedding stuff.  Her main color is watermelon so I have been using Melon Mambo on the stuff that I have made for her.  I made her a card box but I don't have pictures of the completed project yet because I forgot to take them before I gave it to her.  So I will get some at the wedding of it so I can post it.   This card inspiration came from a book that I borrowed from my mom (yes, my mom has everything).  But the design is all original.  I used Glossy white card stock, Melon Mambo card stock and ink, the Heart to Heart punch, the corner rounder, some retired old olive ribbon, a non SU stamp set for the sentiments, and Sakura Glaze pens.  The first thing I did was take the Elegant Bouquet textured folder and ran it through the Big Shot onto Glossy White card stock.  I did this on 4 cut pieces but was able to get the cake layers out of just one.  The bottom layer measures 2 1/2" wide and 1 1/2 tall.  The middle layer is 2x1 and the top is 1 1/2 x 3/4.  I cut the layers after I had already added the embossed image(I told everyone I did that first...lol).  Then I took my corner round and round only the top corners of each layer, then I arranged the layers on the Melon Mambo card base.  Because I am bad at 'centering' projects, I didn't cut the Melon Mambo piece until I had the cake attached and then I measured how far the cake was from the left side of the card and cut the right side to match.  I attached the layers with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Once I got it on the base, I thought, I need a topper....doesn't every wedding cake.  So I stamped a couple images and didn't like it so then I got the bright idea to use the Heart to Heart punch.  I cut out two sets of hearts on the left over embossed image.  I used the both wide hearts for the topper and attached those with dimensionals as well.  And then I noticed a tiny little space that I didn't like, so I punched a Melon Mambo set of hearts and used the smallest one to cover the space.  That is adhered with Snail adhesive.  Then I stamped the sentiment from that non SU set, "love always" with the heart on the end in Melon Mambo ink in the top right corner...of course I didn't push hard enough and the sentiment wasn't crisp so I decide to use my glaze pens.  This is something that Stampin' UP! should sell because it is a great way to give a "faux" embossed feel.  Then I decided that it needed something more...and you can never go wrong with ribbon...right...of course not.  So I found this textured Old Olive ribbon in my stash and viola.  It gives a little pop of green and dresses the card up.  On the inside, I stamped 'congratulations' using the same stamp set, Melon Mambo ink.

New Technique

Hey stampers!  I found this technique in a book of my mom's called "ghosting".  I am sure that I have seen it other places before but this time it grabbed my attention and I wanted to try it.  I used the tree line from Lovely As a Tree set.  You stamp your image on a little card stock and emboss it.  You a darker color ink and sponge around your image.  Then put a piece of scrap paper over the image and iron it.  Yes, I said iron.  You use your household iron to take the embossing paper on to the scrap paper.  Then I did a different style of card, the card base is standard 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  I folded the front of the card back to the fold line.  I stamped the leaf image on the card flap with Versamark.  I framed the "ghosted" image with basic black card stock.  I used the scallop border punch along the bottom of the image and attached it to the folded flap with dimensionals.  I tried to center it as much as possible. (see photos below) Then I used "On Your Birthday"  and stamped in the lower right corner with Timber Brown StazOn.  Under the image, I stamped "let's celebrate" and "happy birthday".  This would make a really nice card for a male coworker or any other important man in your life.  I will probably be playing with this a lot.  Thanks for stopping by.

Something New!

Hey Stampers!  Tonight's project provides a small "sneak" peek.  I used the Awash with Flowers set that will be available to those that missed the pre-order on the 1st of July.  I used Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry inks for the flowers.  The leaves are in Kiwi Kiss(which didn't make a come back, dang!) I used my scallop oval punch for the sentiment which is a salebration set.  I used the scallop border punch for the top and bottom of the vanilla piece.  The base and the sentiment are one of the new colors, Daffodil Delight which is available on July 1st as well.  I used dimensionals to attach the oval but used the brads to add some interest to the sentiment.  I really didn't think I would like this stamp set at first and then I saw different cards made and had to have it.  So if you are on the fence about a stamp set, see if you can find some cards that are made up using it, so you know what kind of ideas are there.  I am hoping to have a list of my retired stamps for sale up on my blog this weekend.  So check back to see what I got for sale.  Here is a link to the last chance list.  Take a  minute to check it out everything on this list is only available until June 30, 2010 or until supplies last.  Here is a link to the accessories last chance list. These items are also until 6/30/10 or while supplies last.  Thanks for stopping by.
